and before all this was antifolk
and before all that was punk
and before all that protopunk
and a whole bunch of music that stunk

politically you might call it insubordination
personally and more fittingly its self liberation

and all it takes is, all it takes is, all it takes is this:
just a little brain (kept in a state short of insane)
a little fingers (choking the self doubt that constantly lingers)
and a little heart

and all the kids out there playing the air guitar solos
just look fucking cool
whether nobody sees them or a whole bunch of strangers
they free themselves of the ridicule
it's an easy way to become unharassable
because the material is accessible
it doesn't have to be jazz chords
and fancy metaphors
and you don't have to sit down and learn the hard bit
when it's not pretentious art shit
